Velo Vitality

Soma Buena Vista Mixte

This build uses a healthy dose of Dia-Compe, Velo Orange and Campagnolo. The end result is one sporty randonneur, that will be reliable, fast and most importantly, built to last!

I do love this type of build, and I think you will agree, it looks fantastic. The customer did a great job at selecting parts.

'Claud' Restoration for David

David helped out in the shop last summer (2015) and I was always onto him to upgrade his old bike. After he took some time out from his PhD to ride the Camino in Spain, he came back to me with a plan to restore 'Claud'. The frame was stripped and sent off to be powdercoated to its former glory. David gave me a rough idea of what he wanted and the overall result, then I was basically left to it. The main requirements were -

  • Nitto Albertross Bars
  • Bar End Shifters
  • Panaracer 37c Tyres
  • Leather Saddle
  • Touring Set-Up

This is the end result.

Highlights include some NOS Shimano transmission, stainless steel inner chainring, and custom built wheels including a Suzue 126mm rear hub. The original Mafac centre-pull brakes have been polished up and brand new Kool Stop Continental pads have been fitted to improve braking performance.

Soma Fabrications Grand Randonneur 650b

This bike was a built up as a shop display, using components found on our website. It is a fine example of a modern take on a classic 650b French bike. This one has been built on a budget using some excellent, affordable components. Some nice details include the needle bearing headset which reduce 'shimmy' which is abit like speed wobble. Also, note the close fitting mudguards with the use of custom spacing. Non-aero cables and downtube shifters prevent the cables producing an uneven hand hold, which allow the rider to fully appreciate the comfortable curves of the randonneur bars. All items which are available to purchase separately are linked in the spec.

1985 Claud Butler Restoration Build

Robert bought this bike into our Brighton store to get rebuilt. It had been treated to a fresh new paint job and new decals, and we had the pleasure of assisting in selecting Roberts build components and the final build up. We wanted to keep the classic look, yet modernise the ride. As I'm sure you will agree, its a great looking bike and if you are in the Eastbourne area, you may spot Robert gliding along with a big grin on his face.
