The All New Bobbin Birdie in Sage
We have just taken delivery of the very first 2014 Bobbin Birdie's. Here we have the lovely sage green and we think this is going to be the colour of choice this year. Bobbin have kept the Birdie's classic good look and riding position from previous years (why change what works so well?). However, there are a few suttle, yet key upgrades to this years model.
The Bobbin Saddle
The new Bobbin saddle has already been getting great feedback from riders the 2014 Bobbin Bramble. Unlike the previous saddles, this new saddle is vacuum formed. This process allowed Bobbin to have greater input into the shape of the saddle and create a stronger saddle with cleaner lines and overall, more comfort. The saddle has a slightly shorter and fatter nose, which helps prevent chafing and a wide back to support the cyclists sit bones (wide is good for an upright riding position).
Metal Non-Slip Pedals
A small but important upgrade for 2014 is the addition of alloy pedals. Previously all Bobbin Bikes were fitted with plastic pedals, however now they have moved up and fitted lovely alloy, non-slip pedals. Relatively flat with rubber grip inserts and reflectors. These pedals represent the forward thinking and attention to detail that Bobbin strive for, removing the plastic ones of previous years and adding a nice touch for 2014.
This year the Bobbin Birdie has been treated to a full chain guard. This idea can cause problems for mechanics, however Bobbin have attacked this challenge with their thinking caps on! See, from a mechanics point of view, when you bring in a bike with a fully enclosed chain case, we get the fear. Just removing the back wheel turns into a lengthy, unappealing job. Bobbin have left the rear of the chain guard open, which allows easy rear wheel removal, and does not require the chain guard to be removed, making it as easy to repair as any other bike.
Cork Blend Grips and Braided Cables
Cork is a natural energy absorber, which works great for bicycle grips. However, on its own, cork can break down and is not durable enough for a bike. Bobbin have used a rubber/cork blend to make a durable, comfortable grips. They have even shaped the grip to make it an ergonomic fit. The cables are now high quality braided cables. Good cables can make the difference to how your brakes and gears perform, and the braided wires make the cables stronger and more durable, we also think that they look cool :)
Finally, Matte Paint Finish.
Four colours are available in this new matte finish; green, yellow, blue and red. Im sure you will agree, it looks elegant and understated.
